The new Strategy Games club is an opportunity for students to learn and play the world’s most interesting games. Some of these games are already familiar, like Checkers and Chess; others you may have heard of, like Mancala or Gomoku; and some will be completely new, like Hnefatafl and Nine Men’s Morris. Each of these games is simple to learn, enjoyable to play, and has its own challenges and secrets.
Why play these games? Not just because they’re fun, but also because they develop lots of mental capabilities and critical thinking skills! Calculating several moves ahead, memorizing key positions, assessing risk and reward, and maintaining full focus – these are lifelong skills as well as aspects of the game. Students who play to win will not only achieve glory over the board, but become more well-rounded thinkers and human beings along the way.
